BIOGRAPHY

Devyn Sowry was born in Ohio, USA, and started playing the flute when he was 8 years old. He studied across the world with many famous masters of the instrument and performed in the world's leading concert halls. Devyn has taken lessons with Sir James Galway, Michael Martin Kofler, Paul Edmund-Davies, Silvia Careddu, Marina Piccinini, Kersten McCall, Ulla Miilmann, Alexa Still, and Herman van Kogelenberg, just to name a few.

Devyn has recently been performing with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra at Boston's Symphony Hall. In the summer of 2024, he toured Europe with the orchestra, performing at the Berlin Philharmonie, Vienna Musikverein, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Basel Stadtcasino, and Prague Rudolfinum. While performing as principal flutist in the orchestra, he was chosen as a featured performer in Maestro Benjamin Zander's viral interpretation classes.

At age 16, Devyn was awarded scholarship to attend The Boston Conservatory to study with Professor Sarah Brady. During his studies, he performed as the principal flutist of the Boston Conservatory Orchestra and Opera. Upon graduation, he was granted admission to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

During his childhood, Devyn spent four years as the principal flutist of the Newark-Granville Youth Symphony. As part of the orchestra, he regularly performed at The Midland Theatre and was invited to perform at New York City's Carnegie Hall. Devyn was also selected as a soloist at several summer music academies, including Oberlin Conservatory and The Ohio State University. In high school, he was chosen to perform as the principal flutist of Ohio's All-State Orchestra and Band.
